Life in the 21st century is fast-paced and if you live in an urban environment and work in an office, it is very easy to slide into unhealthy eating habits, which usually leads to putting on a few extra pounds that you don’t need. Inactivity is another negative habit you need to be aware of and with that in mind, here are a few tried and tested tips to a healthier lifestyle.

  1. Ditch carbonated drinks – If you are addicted to the ‘real thing’, this is one habit you should say goodbye to. Why not experiment with chai and other types of tea and create your own iced-lemon drink? You can also make fresh fruit smoothies if you invest in a blender; order from a local organic farm (find them on the web) and they will send you a weekly delivery so you can enjoy organic produce.
  2. Hire a personal trainer – How many times have you decided to get fit, only for the motivation to fade after a few visits to the local gym? Truth is, no one likes physical pain and we can always find excuse to skip gym day if we don’t have the discipline.   4. Take an early morning stroll or jog – If you are the kind of person who takes a while to wake up, put on your tracksuit and take a walk or jog around the block. Ideally, you should work out all the major muscle groups on a daily basis and jogging is more interesting than lifting weights.
  5. Limit alcohol content – Most of us drink a little more than we should so it makes sense to set realistic limits of units of alcohol per week. You might decide to temporarily quit drinking and when you see how your overall health improves, that could be the motivation you need to continue abstaining.
